Welcome to 'My Corner’. It is a place where I will share some thoughts that I have learnt from various sources, which have transformed my life. I truly believe that it has an immense potential to transform yours as well. It is easy to say that ‘drops make an ocean’ as most of us do not see any benefits from doing ‘little at a time’, particularly during these days of fast life where we seek quick results rather than long term sustainable solutions. We like to spend more time in front of the ‘idiot box’ rather than building relationship with our near and dear ones. We prefer to eat ‘junk’ rather than ‘healthier’ food. We prefer to switch jobs for no apparent reason other than earning a few dollars more.
These are attitudes indicative of ills of our society. These things are happening so fast that we have no control over it. This social evil is difficult to fight individually. Since we form the society, we are a part of the changes that happens in the society. We can be a catalyst to change the society. Again, I will use the phrase ‘drops make an ocean’. If we ensure that the drops are properly collected the ocean is only a matter of time. It will take time to reach a ‘critical mass’ but as one great statesman said, ‘we cannot stop an idea for which time has come’. The time has come to transform ourselves and the society. Let us ride it together to make a difference. I promise you that it will be worth it.
In this corner, I will be sharing various pillars of life like character, discipline, food, health, medicines, mind, body, etc. that I have learnt them from reading books, listening to wise people and educational tapes. I can tell you that what I have learnt and adopted so far have benefited me immensely. Some of the benefits were instantaneous while others took a natural course of time. Nevertheless, they changed my life in a positive way.
The first thing I want to share is ‘Changing the way we look at things’. This is the single most important thing that will change us forever. The following story will illustrate this:
One day the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live.
They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family. On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, "How was the trip?" "It was great, Dad." "Did you see how poor people live?" the father asked. "Oh yeah ,"said the son. "So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?" asked the father.
The son answered: "I saw that we have one dog and they had four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have creek that has no end. We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night. Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon. We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight. We have servants who serve us but they serve others. We buy our food, but they grow theirs. We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them." The boy's father was speechless. Then his son added, "Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are.
Isn’t perspective a wonderful thing?
This is the single most change that will catapult us to a different level altogether. Let us not get stuck to our old ideas and thoughts. Let us not be limited by social conditioning. Let us open our mind and heart and expand ourselves.
When we change the way we look at things, the things we look at change .
